Winston Curtis Roberts, 80, beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend, walked peacefully from this life into the loving arms of the Lord, as his wife laid by his side on Tuesday June 20, 2023. The Lord equipped him with strength during his battle with cancer and Winston graciously persevered, trusting and witnessing of God’s greatness even when the road was hard. He was able to rejoice in his suffering, as his trust was in his Savior who led him home where he will dwell forevermore. He has now been reunited in heaven with his oldest daughter, Rita Shroyer.
Winston was born on August 5, 1942, in Jonesville, Virginia to Wint and Mary Roberts. He married the love of his life Anna Lee on July 21, 1962. They honored their commitment, displayed unwavering, unbreakable devotion, and unconditional love to one another and joyfully renewed their love for each other on their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Winston wholeheartedly adored his wife and the beautiful life they created together.
He was a man who always put his family first. He would always say what a blessed man he was and how he was so blessed to have his family. Those blessings greatly loved and cherished him and include his children: Winston Curtis “Curt” (Kim) Roberts Jr, his twin daughters Rita Shroyer and Anita (Lee) Martin, Brenda (Harold) Luthman, and Mary (Mark) Deshner. His grandchildren: Tara (Rob), Tiffany (Bryson), Tabitha (Ryan), Tatum (Mitch), Josh (Kyla), Ryan (Olga), Rachael (Austin), Winston Curtis III “CJ,” Aaron, Brendan (Fran), Taylor, Caleb, Joseph (Brittany), Lacey, Vicki (Will), Marcus, and Andy. His great grandchildren: Elianna, Roan, Parker, Grant, Johanna, Jayden, Lucas, Liam, Kaylie, Alayna, Titus, Ezekiel, Harper, Paisley, Sage, Murray, Darcy, Sophia, and Ezekiel “Zeke.” His sisters: Shirley (Clinton) Smith, Joetta (William) Didier, and many other extended family members. Those blessings who have gone on before him include his parents, Wint and Mary, siblings Glen (Shirley) Roberts, Cecil (Judy) Roberts, Alene (Earl) Bolin, and granddaughter Adela.
He started his own business Winston Roberts Hauling in 1964. He was a dedicated, hardworking, and dependable man who ran a successful business until he was 78 years old. Despite the weather or how he felt, he always awoke before sunrise to take his “old girl” chevy out for a hard day of work. He truly loved what he did and never wanted to stop running the route. He had also been employed at French Oil for 24 years and Piqua Poultry House.
Winston was a self-proclaimed “hillbilly” and loved the simple things in life. His favorite meal was pinto beans and cornbread. He loved everyone and knew no stranger. He loved to talk and would never hesitate to spread the gospel or share his wisdom. He had a big heart and joyfully helped everyone he could. It brought him so much joy to provide for his family. He had a big sense of humor. He was always laughing, teasing, and joking around. He enjoyed seeing and feeding all of his grand pets. He could always be found supporting his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. His hobbies included mowing the lawn, watching the Reds and Westerns, and playing pinball and solitaire. He was a member of the Sidney Apostolic Temple and greatly enjoyed worshipping his Savior and fellowshipping with his brothers and sisters in the Lord. He wanted everyone to know how great God is and his greatest wish was that everyone would follow and trust in the Lord.
A service to honor his life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2023 at Sidney Apostolic Temple with Pastor Mark Hina officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2023 also at the church. Funeral arrangements are being handled through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
