Wayne K. Melgaard, 80, of 2208 Navajo Trail, Piqua, died at 9:35 pm Monday June 19, 2023 at Select Hospital in Cleveland Ohio. He was born August 29, 1942 in Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer “Mel” Melgaard, June Melgaard, and loving wife Gail Melgaard. He married Gail on July 29, 1967 in Middletown.
Survivors include a daughter Carol (Jeff) Howard of Liberty, Kentucky; two sons, Matthew (Jennifer) Melgaard of Bradford, Michael "Brandon" (Carrie) Melgaard of Cleveland; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Lynn Whillehan (favorite color is purple) of Easley South Carolina, Karen Thompson (favorite color is also purple) of Marco Island, Florida.
Mr. Melgaard graduated from Chicago Schools in 1960, joined the United States Air Force on August 29th, 1962. Upon being honorably discharged he began his sales career. While working at his first job Wayne met his future wife Gail Melgaard. Wayne and Gail were married on July 29th, 1967 after they moved to Middletown Ohio. Mr. Melgaard then started a career in sales that led him to the remaining years of his career. Wayne then dedicated his remaining years serving as a patron of Miami County Hospice and an active member serving as a greeter, deacon, and elder at the Piqua Church of Christ, then The Valley Church.
A service to honor his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, also at the funeral home.
