Vernon D. “Vernie” Bourne, 86, of Piqua, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Saturday April 30, 2022 at the Versailles Rehab and Healthcare Center. He was born June 17, 1935 in Dayton to the late Boyd Crockett and Naomi Idella (Gephardt) Bourne. He married Carolyn Kay Reardon February 10, 1967 in Pleasant Hill; she preceded him in death October 14, 2006.
Survivors include four children, Greg (Debbie) Bourne of Ansonia, Kim (Kimberly) Bourne of DeGraff, Tonya (Nathan) Persinger of Quincy, and Jill Bourne of Piqua; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a sister Virginia Williams of Apex, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herschel Bourne, Curtis Bourne; and a sister Eula Jean Breeding.
Vernie attended Vandalia schools and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He retired from his successful career as the owner, operator and plumber of the Foster Plumbing Company in West Milton. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Ohio National Guard. He will be remembered for his incredible work ethic and devotion to his customers and his friends and family. He enjoyed Indy Car Racing and did a few local races of his own. He will be missed by those who loved him.
A service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Daniel Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home.
