STERKEL L. COYNE

Sterkel L. Coyne, 88, of Piqua, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born June 5, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Virgil E. and Mary Louise (Levering) Coyne. He married Arlene B. Fogt January 5, 1958 in Sidney; and she survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Kris (Mike) Ivanowicz of Piqua, Kimberly Cox of Brooksville, Florida; three grandchildren, Katie Mickelson, Brandon Ivanowicz, Haines Ivanowicz; and a brother-in-law, Robert Potter of Piqua. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Potter.

Mr. Coyne was a 1952 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served with the Sea Bees. He was especially proud of his “special claim to fame” that he visited the top of the world in the Arctic, and the bottom of the world, in the Antarctic. He was a long standing and active member of St. Paul’s Church. He worked as a Lead Ramp Service Technician for Trans World Airlines for 34 years before his retirement. He was a past member of the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad, Hemlock Sportsman’s Club, the Piqua Fish & Game, the V.F.W. Post 4874, and the Free & Accepted Masons Warren Lodge. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, drinking beer, and showing off his beloved bear rug.

A service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith A. Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
