The light in the world dimmed and the rain came down when Ruth L. Cameron passed away at age 93 on Sunday, September 22, 2024 with her family surrounding her. Her passing was quiet and peaceful, just as she was in real life. She will be remembered as a sweet, positive lady who never uttered a harsh word about anyone. She was beloved by her family, friends, church, and neighbors.
Ruth Lillian Fleeger was born November 17, 1930 to Emma L. and Charles E. Fleeger and had one sister, Lois Kathryn Heighton, who preceded her in death by only a few days. She lived her entire life here in Piqua. Through a friend, she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Cameron, and they enjoyed 58 years of happiness together before Bill passed away at the age of 91 in 2011. One thing they enjoyed together were frequent trips to Treasure Island, Florida to enjoy the beach and warmth of the Florida sun. Their three children, Christine, Scott and Steve grew up loving the beach and sun as their legacy.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Christine “Chris” A. Cameron of Englewood, Florida, son Scott W. and his wife Molly A. Cameron of Piqua, and two grandsons, Kevin Cameron of Troy and Kory Cameron of Piqua. She also had several grand-dogs, thanks to daughter Chris. A son, Steven G. Cameron, preceded her in death.
Ruth worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce until her retirement. But never one to lounge around, she continued to keep busy as an active member of the Piqua Four Seasons Garden Club, Altrusa, two euchre card clubs, and never hesitated to lend a hand at St. Paul’s Church. You could find her in the kitchen preparing the church’s trademark chicken & noodle dinners and apple dumplings. She also was an active member of the Piqua YWCA, where she enjoyed the programs, monthly luncheons, and day trips. She was always willing to lend a hand and would be the first one to sign up and show up to help wherever and whenever she was needed.
Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Church and though she was not one to proselytize, her faith was strong and there is no doubt she was warmly welcomed by her Lord as she entered Heaven. When her name comes up in conversation, she is always described as a sweet, kind, and positive lady who never complained and who was always ready to make someone else’s life a little brighter by her words and actions. She was a living example of how Jesus Christ wanted his followers to live their lives on earth. In her later years, Ruth became a fan of jigsaw puzzles and always had one in progress laid out on a card table. Family and friends were welcome to fill in a piece or two. Her life is now a completed jigsaw puzzle with each piece lovingly filled in with memories and people who were part of her life and whose lives she touched.
A service to honor her life will begin at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith A. Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Church 500 N. Downing St. Piqua, OH 45356 or the YWCA, 418 N. Wayne St. Piqua, OH 45356.
