ROBERT M. "BOB" SCHMIDT

The world lost a great man on June 17, 2022, but heaven gained a faithful angel. Robert M. “Bob” Schmidt passed away at the age of 73 with his wife by his side. Robert was born on March 16, 1949, in Piqua to the late Lester and Rita (Neargarder) Schmidt. Robert met his wife, and the love of his life, Christine L. Bishop, at a teen dance at the 36 Skate Club in 1967. They were married August 8, 1970 at St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Robert graduated from Covington High School in 1967, and United Electronic School in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1970. In addition to being a loving husband for 51 years, Robert was also a devoted father to four children, and adoring grandfather to seven.

Robert is survived by his wife Christine (Bishop) Schmidt of Piqua; his four children Jennifer (John) Wagner of Alexandria, Virginia,  Amy (Chris) Richardson of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Maggie (Chris) Fetty of Beavercreek, Joe (Amy) Schmidt of Liberty Township; seven grandchildren, Jeff Wagner, Jacob Wagner, Boden Richardson, Camden Richardson, Dillan Fetty, Lia Fetty, Ava Schmidt; his siblings Connie Sheldon of Centerville, Richard Schmidt of Enon, Sharon Grube of Piqua, and Sandy Stine of Piqua. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Rita Schmidt; and two sisters, Doris Schmidt and Alice Chappie.

Robert was a NICEIC certified electrician and loyal employee at Area Energy and Electric and OVIS in Sidney for 35 years. Since retirement, Robert expressed his zest for life and eye for beauty through his prolific paintings and artwork. Robert also enjoyed traveling with Christine across the country, actually the world, to visit and spend time with his precious family. Robert was well known for his dad jokes, corny word plays and puns. In addition to his sense of humor and wit, Robert is also admired by his family and friends for his disciplined work ethic, generous spirit and last, but not least, his tremendous faith in God.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Daniel P. Hunt as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
