ROBERT J. RUSSELL

Robert James Russell, Sr., 90, of Troy, passed away peacefully at 1:57 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at his residence. He was born April 24, 1933 in Chillicothe to the late James M. and Naomi R. (Evans) Russell.

Survivors include three children, Cindy Hughes (Mike Garrett) of Waynesville, Becky (Donald) Fleming of Tipp City, Chip Russell of Piqua; eight grandchildren, Amy (Fred) Ratermann, Megan (Terry) Robinson, Justin Stafford, Jarrod (Jendayi) Stafford, Ashley Stafford, Aaron Wendling, Sydney Bowers, Dalton (Kerrie) Russell; seven great grandchildren, Crile Staudt, Trenton Robinson, Jersey Robinson, Amaya Johns, Aubrey Stafford, Alden Stafford, Elias Russell; and one brother, Donald (Janet) Russell of Chillicothe. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Hughes.

Mr. Russell was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio Northern University where he excelled in Pharmaceutical Science. He worked as the in house pharmacist for various hospitals and mom and pop shops throughout the Miami Valley before ending his career at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton where he retired. He was a man of many interests which included traveling, hiking, and snow skiing. He also enjoyed his time as a private pilot in his younger years. Additionally, he was talented with his hands, and used those talents as a woodcarver, making beautiful items; as well as his ability skillfully play the piano. He will be deeply missed by his loving family.

A service to honor his life will begin at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Jay Gillis officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad immediately following the service. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
