Robert A. “Red” Bomhard, 99 of Piqua passed away at 11:21 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Piqua Manor. He was born January 8, 1923 in Piqua to the late Arthur C. and Leota (Dill) Bomhard. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie (Dill) Bomhard in 1988, and his brothers Arthur A. and Neil M. Bomhard. Robert graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1940, and he was a lifelong resident of Piqua.
Robert proudly served in WWII in the 1303rd Engineers General Services Regiment under General Patton’s Third Army. He served in both the European and Japanese theatres, and was among the first Americans to land in Japan after they surrendered.
After Robert was discharged from the Army, he worked for Hobart Manufacturing for a short time, and then worked for the Burroughs Corporation for 30 years as a repairman.
He had many relatives that included the Bomhard, Dill, Lange, and Ike families. In his free time he enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.
A graveside service to honor his life will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Forest Hill Cemetery with full military honors being provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
