Robert H. “Bob” Montgomery, 92, of Piqua passed away at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born December 30, 1931 in Cookeville, Tennessee to the late Robert L. and Leah F. (Anderson) Montgomery. He married Darlene I. Mumy December 30, 1956 in North Baltimore, Ohio; a union that would span 67 years, and she preceded him in death January 18, 2024.
Survivors include six children, Steve (Karen) Montgomery of Gilbert, Arizona, Lucinda (John) Black of Troy, Linda (Greg) Peltier Monte of Piqua, Lisa (Bryan) Magoto of Piqua, Lori Brautigam of Russells Point, Jeff (Linda) Vernon of West Liberty; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and three siblings, Janie Spicer of Maplewood, Leon (Janet) Montgomery of Maplewood, and Mary Ellen Andrews of Wapakoneta. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Montgomery, Tom Montgomery; a sister, Nancy Keysor; and two sons-in-law, Joe Brautigam, and James Peltier.
Bob was a graduate of Quincy High School. He advanced his studies at Findlay College for his undergraduate and earned his Masters of Education from Akron University. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy in the Korean War. He worked various positions in the education field including as a teacher for the Graham School District and Piqua Catholic; the Assistant and Interim Superintendant for Sidney Christian; and as the Principal for Springcreek Elementary, from which he retired following 20 years of service. He was a member of the Piqua Kiwanis for over 50 years; served as a Springcreek Township Trustee; Promise Keepers; the Korean War Veterans Association; and the Greater Sidney Area Emmaus. Additionally, he loved to travel with his wife in their RV where they spent the last 30 years traveling to every corner of North America together. Bob was a constant mentor, whether in education or professional life; but what brought him the most joy was mentoring others in their journey of faith. He took great pride in seeing others come into the Light of Christ.
A service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at The Valley Church with Pastor Ryan Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Quincy where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
