Obituary

Richard Henry Thompson, 94, of Grapevine Texas, died on March 31, 2023 at his residence.  He was born March 5, 1929 in Piqua to the late Lloyd E. and Ceridwen M. (Thomas) Thompson.  He is survived by his sister Helen Wilson of Springfield, Ohio.  Other survivors include nephew and nieces Bill Thompson of Cincinnati Ohio, Jennifer Thompson Bruton of Milford, Connecticut, Teresa “Tracy” Yingst of Piqua, Julie Thompson Champion of Summerville, South Carolina, Ceridwen “CC” Shellabarger of Piqua; and great nieces and nephews, Kate Thompson, Jane Thompson, Tristan Yingst, Julianna Yingst, Timothy “Scott” Wilson, Jr., Dakota Wilson, Brayden Wilson, Harrison “Taylor” Stine, Hannah Stine, and Madeline Beeler. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas G. Thompson, Leroy Thompson, John W. Thompson and Robert L. Thompson.  

Richard was referred to as Dick or Dick Thompson to his closet and dearest friends with whom he associated and traveled with for years. They include Vicki and Greg Spaulding, Julie Alexander and Bud and Violet Hawkins. He served honorably as First Lieutenant in the United States Army. Richard was a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business. After graduation, Richard began a long and illustrious career with NCR Corporation. His career as an executive directed him to many places including Illinois, Oregon, Hawaii and California. Upon retirement he moved to Grapevine, Texas, which became his home. In Texas, Richard volunteered with many organizations. He was a proud member of the Grapevine Texas VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) as well as the Grapevine Wine Pouring Society. Richard blessed many people during his life. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A gathering of family and friends to honor his life will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Miami Fund, 725 E. Chestnut St. Oxford, OH 45056.
