Richard A. Calendine, 75, of Colorado Springs, joined his Lord and Savior Friday, December 1, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 1, 1948 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Billy A. and Mildred N. (Hayes) Calendine.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula (Paul) Homberger, Pamela Calendine, both of Colorado Springs; seven grandchildren, Caylee Kohn, Olivia Kohn, Jacob Homberger, Amara Homberger, Alaina Calendine, Henry Homberger, Rehna Homberger; a brother, Roger (Janette) Calendine of McConnelsville, Ohio; a sister, Karen (Dean) Wortman of Conesville, Ohio; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
Mr. Calendine was a 1966 graduate of Malta-McConnelsville High School in Ohio. He graduated with a degree in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University and served professionally as a pharmacist in Ohio and Florida for many years before enjoying his retirement in Sarasota, Florida, where he found a passion for landscaping and would fulfill a part-time position with a landscaping company. He loved his time spent in Sarasota and considered the area to be his personal paradise. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering for the Cleveland Browns and Indians as well as his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a member of the Sarasota Alliance Church and kept himself active in many facets of the church; but always looked forward to the opportunity to transport missionaries to and from the airport. In May of 2021, Richard moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to his daughters and cherished the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Richard's Life will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Tri-Lakes United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Ward officiating. A graveside service to honor his life will be held at McConnelsville Cemetery in Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Lakes United Methodist Church, 20256 Hunting Downs Way, Monument, CO 80132.
