P.J. Martin, 49, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024 after an eight year battle with cancer. He was born June 28, 1974 in Troy to Rebecca (Charles Slack) Martin of Piqua, and the late Pat E. Martin. He married Rosemary F. Bolin July 27, 2002 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Anthony “Tony” (Erin Hoskins) Martin of Piqua; and a daughter, Victoria “Tory” Martin of Piqua; his aunt, Carol Ruese of New Bremen; his father in law, Luke (Cathy) Bolin of Piqua; and his sister in law, Carrie (Travis) Boles-Lear of Piqua; also other relatives and countless friends. He was preceded in death by two uncles, Ron and Armand Martin; and his mother in law, Vicky Bolin.
P.J. was a 1992 graduate of Piqua High School and the Joint Vocational School. He worked as a machinist and tool maker for Premier Tool in Troy. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His true passion was cars, and he loved auto racing and working on race cars. Additionally, he enjoyed participating in various demolition derbies with Rosemary and Tony for the last 33 years and always enjoyed the challenge of building and running his cars in the derby. He loved everything Godzilla, and shared that love with his daughter; because of this all of his derby cars were green and black. P.J. loved to tell stories, and even if you've heard it a thousand times he was able to make it an interesting story every time. Even when P.J. wasn't feeling the greatest, he had a knack for making a joke or saying something that would lighten the mood in the room. Above all else, he loved his family and his kids were the most important thing to him. He will truly be missed by all who loved him.
A service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Schaffner officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 11th, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dayton Children’s Hospital Attn: Foundation, 1 Children’s Plaza, Dayton, OH 45404 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
