Obituary

Norma L. Lyons, 97, of Columbus, formerly of Covington, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023 with her grandchildren at her bedside. She was born March 7, 1926 in Piqua to the late Noble A. and Mabel M. (Studebaker) Snyder. She married Joseph E. Lyons June 29, 1947 in Piqua; he preceded her in death October 7, 1996.

Survivors include three children, Carma Jo (Keith) Kauffman of Danville, Greg (Patrice) Lyons of Russia, and Douglas Lyons of Blacklick; five grandchildren, Jamie, Kelly, Troy, Betsy and Benjamin; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Ron Snyder of New Bremen, and Keith Snyder of Piqua; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and seven siblings, Marceil Apple, Maxine Russell, Betty Giesseman, Sue Lavey, Donna Lemmon, Dale and Ray Snyder.

Mrs. Lyons was a graduate of Piqua Central High School Class of 1944. She formerly attended Piqua Church of the Brethren. Norma retired  from Fifth Third Bank. In Norma’s spare time, she would volunteer at Stouder Hospital and UVMC Gift shop. She loved antiques, and would travel over to Holmes County to antique with her Husband. She enjoyed bus trips with her husband and sister Donna as well as playing cards with her sisters and having her annual joint garage sale with sister Betty. Norma was an avid reader of novels by Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel. Additionally, she volunteered with sister Donna at Piqua Salvation Army. She also enjoyed being outdoors working in the yard and baking her favorite dish, rhubarb crisp. She enjoyed being around her family and will be forever missed.

A graveside service to honor her life will be held at 12:15 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery with Pastor Kris Geise officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to ProMedica Hospice.
