Neill Howard Haas, 74, died peacefully at Miami Valley Hospital on Friday February 7, 2025. He was born September 14, 1950, in Dayton to the late Howard and Sue (Hyre) Haas. He married his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Crist, on January 16, 1981, in Piqua, and she survives. Other survivors include two children; Emma (Steve) MacGuidwin of Powell, and Jackson (Mackenzie) Haas of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Patrick, Jane, Laura, Wes, Tess, Max, and Tillie; three brothers, Tom (Michelle) Haas, Rick (Beth) Haas, and Kevin Haas; his mother-in-law, Donna Crist; his aunt, Katherine Stum; and many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the many people he has touched throughout his life.
Neill graduated from Belmont High School in Dayton in 1968, subsequently he achieved bachelor’s degrees in Communications and Business from Ohio University and an Associate of Applied Business in Data Processing from Edison State Community College. He obtained his CPA license on his first attempt in 1983 and continued a lifelong career in finance. He worked at Baumfolder, Fifth Third Bank, and finally Murray Wells Wendeln & Robinson, never hesitating to share his love for and knowledge of numbers and financial planning with those around him.
Neill was deeply involved in the Piqua community, serving in leadership positions with the Piqua Community Foundation, Piqua United Way, Upper Valley Medical Center Foundation Board, Piqua Arts Council, and the Piqua Rotary Club. Additionally, he was a longtime member of the Piqua Country Club and the Golden Boys golf group. Neill supported his children’s Catholic education and was a friend to St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Lehman Catholic High School.
Neill’s many interests and hobbies included spending time with family, golfing, playing poker with friends, listening to a wide variety of musical genres, following his favorite sports teams, and studying geography finding out the best “routes” to get from one place to another. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Neill had a great sense of humor and could always make people laugh with his subtle one-liners and goofy imitations.
A service to honor Neill's life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
