Nancy Ann Bates, 83 of Piqua, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2022 at Troy Rehabilitation and Heathcare Center. She was born November 19, 1938 in Piqua to the late Russell and Jean (Lawrence) Beaver.
She is survived by three brothers, Dudley (Diane) Beaver of Upper Arlington, James (Jody) Beaver of Buckeye Lake, Daniel (Diane) Beaver of Piqua; a sister, Gale (Michael) Emerick of Piqua; four children, Mark (Tina) Dowty of Piqua, Mardelle (Brad) Friesen of Memphis, Tenn, Brian (Jean Toal) Bates of Littleton, Colo, and Karyn Hatfield of Thornton, Colo; seven grandchildren, Geoffrey (Marie) Friesen of Seattle, Wash, Elizabeth Peralta of Edmond, Okla, Joshua (Erika) Grube of Colorado Springs, Colo, Kevin Dowty of Piqua, Rebekah (Gabry) Amador-Montes of Germany, Stephanie (Mark Buckner) Dowty of Anderson, Ind, Kaylyn (Michael Fernandez) Hatfield of Thornton, Colo; fifteen great grandchildren, Fernando (Gisella) Amador-Montes of Spain, Jeremy, Alexander, and Samuel Amador-Montes of Germany, Lillian, Brooklyn, Jaiden and Jackson Grube of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Justen and Jayson Buckner of Anderson, Ind, Callan Friesen of Seattle, Washington, Jeremiah Rel of Edmond, Okla, Layla Peralta of Long Island, NY, Shane Pearson of Piqua, and Jadelynn Dowty of Troy; seven nieces and nephews, Paul Beaver of Upper Arlington, Melissa (David) Fitz-Gerald of Solon, Mindy (Pat) Clark of Upper Arlington, Alisha (James) Porter of Buckeye Lake, Aaron Beaver of Piqua, Krista (Rod) Black of Columbus, and Jill (Scott) Blankenship of Miamisburg. She was preceded in death by a nephew, Jeffrey Emerick.
Nancy graduated in 1956 from Piqua Central High School, she also studied at Edison Community College in Piqua, and Aims Community College in Colorado, where she lived for 26 years. She retired from Continental Airlines after 15 years in 2003, and moved back to Piqua in 2006. Nancy was a member of the Grandmothers Club of Troy and was responsible for organizing the class lunches for her graduating class. Nancy was also a member of Piqua Baptist Church. While living in Piqua before the move to Colorado, she worked at JC Penny, Ohio Bell Telephone Company as an operator in Piqua and Dayton and the Piqua Daily Call where she edited the cooking page during the late 1970s.
A Celebration of Nancy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Piqua Baptist Church with Pastor Jamie Wellman officiating. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery.
