Mildred R. “Millie” Beckstedt, 96, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 5:09 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Hospice of Miami County. She was born April 20, 1927 in Troy to the late Everett C. and Velva (Waugh) Smith. She married William J. “Bill” Beckstedt September 13, 1947 at Union Baptist Church in Troy; and he preceded her in death January 14, 2006.
Survivors include two children, Diane (Dan) Beaver, Bill (Victoria) Beckstedt all of Piqua; four grandchildren, Aaron Beaver, Krista (Rodney) Black, Nick Beckstedt, Erica (Chad) Bowers; five great grandchildren, Madison, Alex, Zariah, Azlynn, Zane; and a brother, Willard “Pete” Smith of Pleasant Hill. She was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, John Beckstedt.
Millie was a graduate of Staunton High School. For many years, she was a thoughtful and dedicated homemaker until her children were out of the home. She then worked as the manager for Southside Laundromat; a career she deeply enjoyed. She was a past Girl Scout Leader and was very active with Piqua Baptist Church where she served on the committee for Vacation Bible School, worked on the bulletins, and was on the flower committee. She enjoyed working on puzzles and solving word search games. Additionally, she loved to clean and took great pride in maintaining an immaculate home.
A service to honor her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Piqua Baptist Church with Pastor Jamie Wellman officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
