Michele V. "Shelly" Phipps, of Greenville, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the age of 63. She was born May 9, 1959, in Piqua to the late Lyle O. Shively and Ulene V. (Young) Shively of Troy.
Including her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Felicia Imbrogno (Mark) of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Sarah Phipps (Chris Hunter) of Charleston, West Virginia; two grandchildren; her brother, Robert Shively of Troy; and many other relatives and friends.
Shelly was raised by her parents in Piqua. She spent most of her childhood involved in numerous extracurricular activities, including, dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading. She graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1977. After graduation, Shelly attended Ohio State University. After earning her nursing degree, Shelly focused on providing care for the elderly until she left the practice to become a full-time homemaker. During her daughters’ formative years, Shelly was very involved and is lovingly remembered as one of the loudest and proudest fans of the Greenville Green Wave Women’s soccer team and was known to many of her daughters’ friends as a second mom. Shelly loved reading and doing cross word puzzles and other word games and was a formidable opponent to anyone who dared challenge her. She enjoyed spending time at the beach in Fort Myers, Florida, with her Aunt Cathy Staley and friend Pam Rank, both of whom she referred to as her “soul sisters.” Finally, Shelly was a life-long animal lover and volunteered at the Darke County Humane Society where she assisted in fostering and placing many dogs and cats over the years.
Shelly will be remembered not only as a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, but, above all, for her kind, loving, and free spirit and her desire to help other people, dogs, and cats.
As Shelly always felt most at peace on warm and sunny days, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date during the summer months. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Darke County Humane Society. Guestbook condolences and expressions of sympathy, to be provided to the family, may be expressed through jamiesonandyannucci.com.
