Michael L. Schaffer, 79, of Covington, passed away at 6:27 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born May 19, 1947 in Oildale, California to the late Margaret Minnich. He married Carol (Hole) Schaffer on December 31, 1971 in Covington, and she survives.
Michael is also survived by three children, Tracy (Dane) Nagel of Leburn, Kentucky, Shon (Manda) Schaffer of Covington, and Zachary Schaffer (Aaron Mescher) of St. Petersburg, Florida; nine grandchildren, Zachary (Kelsey), Connor (AJ), Haley (Michael), Miriah, Kara (Monroe), Zachery, Breanna (Ryan), Ashlyn (Ben), and Kenny (Kami); ten great grandchildren; also numerous other relatives and friends.
Michael was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1966. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served honorably until he had the opportunity to enroll for college education, and chose Ferris State in Michigan where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education. He was originally planning to be a teacher, and received a job offer from BF Goodrich around that same time, and the rest was history. Michael retired from BF Goodrich as a Manufacturing Supervisor after 36 years of hard work and dedication. Mike's passion in life was playing golf, he was a loyal Cleveland Browns fan, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, listening to classic rock and sports broadcasts, and most of all spending time with his family including walking his two Schnauzers, Gabby and Echo. He coached various age levels in softball, baseball, basketball, and was involved with Covington Football in various roles for almost 50 years.
A service to honor his life will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Covington Athletic Department, 807 Chestnut Street, Covington, OH 45318.
