Michael A. Barhorst, 68, of Troy, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 11, 2024. He was born May 9, 1956 in Sidney to the late Edwin B. and Josephine M. (Hoover) Barhorst Sr.
Michael is survived by two daughters, Amanda (Lance) Leibold of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Bridget Barhorst of Sidney; two grandsons, Owen and Blake Leibold; four brothers, Ted Barhorst, Joe (Sherri) Barhorst, Bill (Mamie) Barhorst, Dan (Pam) Barhorst, all of Piqua; six sisters, Shirley Beard of Piqua, Mary Lou (Floyd) Yinger of Sidney, Rosie (Bill) Luthman of Minster, Chris (John) Gerlach of Piqua, Jeanie Leonard of Piqua, and Kathy (Luke) Braun of Jackson Center; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and Frank Barhorst; and two sisters, Marilyn Bashore and Pat Stang.
Michael was a graduate of Piqua Central High School, Class of 1975. He worked as a Machinist at Crane Pumps. Michael loved nature, and enjoyed going fishing, camping, feeding deer and going to the park to watch for bald eagles. He was a fan of all sports, but especially was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns. Michael liked to play Texas Hold'em Poker and had won a few tournaments in previous years. Family was most important to Michael, and he made sure to keep up to date on his grandson's sports and events, and always kept a close relationship with all of his siblings. Children in the family always gravitated toward Michael, and he loved entertaining them with his sometimes goofy and fun-loving nature.
A service to honor Michael's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Kris Geise officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
