Merrill Ray Allred Jr. SFC Retired, 72, of Piqua, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023 at Upper Valley Medical Center. Ray was born on September 5, 1950 in Montgomery County/Clarksville Tennessee to the late Merrill and Goldie (Claxton) Allred. He graduated from WT Thomas High School in 1969. He married Lisa (Wenrick) Allred on October 31, 1997 in Troy, Ohio. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter Mia Michelle Burton.
Survivors include his wife Lisa Allred (Piqua), Brother Wayne (Tammy) Allred (Missouri), Daughter Dana Allred-Schumaker (Kansas), Daughter Tammy Masters (Kansas), Son John (Jeanette) Allred (Tennessee), Daughter Susan Allred, Son Jesse Allred (Tennessee) and stepson Joseph Dallas Burton (Piqua). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews and “Brother” Thomas Norton-Smith of North Canton, Ohio.
Ray proudly served and retired from the United States Army December 31, 1989. He began his service to the United States of America in the 1st Cavalry Division and served multiple tours in Vietnam. He received many accommodations which included the Bronze Star Medals, Commendation Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, Achievement and Good Conduct Medals. Ray also retired from ITW/Hobart in Troy. Ray enjoyed attending living history rendezvous and riding his Harley.
A full military honor memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. Ray expressed that donations be sent to any nonprofit military organization of the person’s choosing. Ray will be forever missed by all that knew and loved him. Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
