Marilyn Benning, 74, of Piqua, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Piqua Manor. She was born October 6, 1950 to the late James L. and Martha E. (Jess) Benning.
She is survived by her sister, Sandra D. Benning of Piqua. She was preceded in death by her brother Steven E. Benning.
Marilyn grew up on a rented farm where she learned gardening at an early age with her siblings. During high school, Marilyn worked at the Spot restaurant with her sister. After high school, Marilyn took classes off campus from Wright State University. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Teaching and her Masters Degree in Library Science. Her father helped her out financially by giving her a steer and some hogs to sell which she earned by helping out on the farm. She also attended various county fairs, family reunions, farm shows, and making homemade ice.
After she retired from teaching, she like driving tractors, feeding the birds and cats on the farm, helping her siblings decorate for special holidays at Piqua Manor and going on short road trips in Ohio. Marilyn loved writing and sending special holiday cards to her friends, family, neighbors and elderly people who she met at Piqua Manor. She was an elementary teacher for Bradford Schools for about 38 years, teaching young minds in 2nd and 3rd grade. In her spare time she would like to travel with her friends. She also enjoyed shopping with her mother and working on the family genealogy. Marilyn loved animals, especially dogs and a pony named Randy.
A funeral service to honor her life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday March 19, 2025 at Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
