MARGARET "PEGGY" CHENEY Obituary

Margaret E. Cheney “Honey”, also known as Peggy, was surrounded by her loving family as she went home to see the Lord at 5:50 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2022.  She was born November 5, 1935 in Lima to the late Clarence “Click” and Ethel (Richter) O’Connor.  She married Thomas J. Cheney June 18, 1955 in Lima; he preceded her in death December 3, 2019.

Survivors include Cynthia (August) Cianciolo of Piqua, Craig (Susan) Cheney of Piqua, Sandra McNatt of Indialantic, Florida, Maria (Todd) Luft of Sarasota, Florida, Tom (Jamie Brown) of Piqua, a foster child Tina Ross-Colby of Alexandria, Virginia; fourteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren with one on the way.  Other survivors include her three brothers Phil (Joellen) O’Connor of South Carolina, Jim (Darlene) O’Connor of Florida and Donnie (Becky) O’Connor of Lima; and one sister Kathy (Bill) Neiswander of Virginia; as well numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Cheney and a great grandson, Angelo David Cianciolo.

Peggy attended and graduated from St. Gerard’s Catholic School in Lima.  She had a wonderful group of friends and kept in touch with her classmates, which were all beautiful friendships.   After marrying Tom and moving to Piqua, she became a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she attended mass every Saturday evening.  She was often accompanied by her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter’s family.  One of her favorite things was to watch some of her grandchildren serve during mass.  Peggy also enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and other family members.  When given the opportunity for an evening out with friends, Peggy always took advantage of the offer especially if she could sip on Canadian Club or a glass of Pinot Grigio with A LOT OF ICE.  Peggy made many friends and each one of them was near and dear to her in a way they may have not known, but she loved big and enjoyed and was grateful for all the moments in which she was given.  Whatever she was called: Peggy, Honey, Aunt Peg or Mom truly didn’t matter, unless of course she was called Margaret and then you were given the side eye “Mean Aunt Peg” look.  She was loved beyond measure and will be missed more that words can express.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2022 St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Daniel P. Hunt as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Broadway Piqua, OH 45356, Piqua Show Choir, “The Company”, 1 Indian Trail, Piqua, OH 45356 or Hospice of Miami County Inc., 3230 N.
