Loy Lynn Assell, 57, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 10:32 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2025 at Hospice of Miami County. She was born August 5, 1967 in West Memphis, Arkansas to Barbara “Judy” (Ferguson) Leggett and the late Jimmy Leggett. She married Daniel H. Assell August 12, 2006 in Noblesville, Indiana; and he survives.
Other survivors include two children, Brittany Gee of Troy, Samuel Assell of Piqua; two siblings, Kirby (Christine) Leggett of North Carolina, Tracy (Adam) Mills of Texas; twelve nieces and nephews, Kirby II, Jacob, Ethan, Gavin, Doug, Cherie, Molly, Lilly, Emma, Addie, Finley, and Bryson.
Loy was a 1986 graduate of Katy High School in Katy, Texas. She was an extremely avid golfer and enjoyed playing as well as watching golf. She was a deeply involved mother who tended to her children’s every need and she enjoyed staying active with their activities and was involved in the Mom’s Club in St. Joseph, Michigan as well as the Piqua Band Boosters. She was a talented painter and enjoyed expressing herself through her acrylic painting. Additionally, she was an animal lover, especially her beloved cats. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and many friends.
A service to honor her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Chaplain Teresa McClennon officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
