Louis R. Curtis, 91, of Piqua, passed away at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born January 2, 1931 in Piqua to the late Fern W. and Matilda (Jaegel) Curtis. He married Mary Nancy Brockert December 14, 1951 in Fairbanks, Alaska; and she preceded him in death February 19, 1994. He then married Carolyn J. Hinger October 8, 1994 in Piqua; and she preceded him in death March 27, 2008.
Survivors include five children, Kathy (Bob) Creager of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Keith (Cindy) Curtis of St. Marys, Karen (Tim) Lawrence of Piqua, Kim Wagner of Piqua, Kevin (Melinda) Curtis of Covington; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Clifford Klase, Paul Curtis, Ray Curtis, George Curtis, Fernie Curtis, Charles Curtis; three sisters, Rosie McCawley, Eilene Deeter, Theresa Mikolajewski; and a son-in-law, Tim Wagner.
Mr. Curtis was a 1949 graduate of Piqua Catholic High School. He served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He worked for many years in various aspects of the grocery industry. Upon retiring from the grocery business, he worked as a courier for the former Bank One. He was a member of the Knights of St. John and was the chairman of the St. Boniface Festival for many years. He enjoyed playing the lottery, bingo and going to the casinos. Additionally, he was a gifted craftsman and enjoyed refinishing furniture as well as maintaining his yard. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes. More than anything, he loved his family and cherished his time spent with them, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday July 3, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church, 310 S.
