L. JEAN FRANCONY

L. Jean Francony, 90, of Piqua, passed away at 8:19 p.m. Saturday October 21, 2023 at Ayden Health Care. She was born May 18, 1933 in Piqua to the late Edward L. and Ellen A. (Slack) Spielman. She married Charles L. “Bill” Francony September 23, 1955 in Piqua; he preceded her in death May 24, 2009.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon “Sherrie” Lyons of Piqua; a son, Douglas (Lori) Francony of Piqua; four grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Francony, Bradley Francony; Michelle (Joel) Hart, Matthew (Kaitlynn) Lyons; and six great grandchildren, Gavin, Owen, Rebecca, Benjamin, Killian, and Jameson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond L. Spielman; and a son-in-law, James Lyons.

Jean was a 1951 graduate of Piqua Central High School and earned her Degree as a Registered Nurse in 1954 from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing. She enjoyed a long and notable professional career caring for others with the former Baptist Home care facility and Heartland of Piqua care facility where she served as the Director of Nursing. She was a co-founder of the Miami Valley Director of Nursing Association where she also served as its Secretary/Treasurer and was a member of Greene Street United Methodist Church. She enjoyed keeping her hands busy with crocheting, and knitting; and also enjoyed keeping her mind active through working crossword puzzles and spending her spare time reading. Jean will be remembered for her genuine care for others, enjoying friends, and being with her family.

A service to honor her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Will Leasure officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
