Lisle M. Smith, “Smitty” 85, of Piqua, passed away peacefully to join his Lord and Savior at 7:15 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Sylvania, OH March 13, 1938 to the late Charles L. and Ethel (McDowell) Smith. He is survived by Patricia L. Pardonner, whom he married on January 9,1972 in Middletown, OH.
Other survivors include four children, Erin Smith of Mesa, AZ, Eric (Allison) Smith of Columbus, OH, Denver (Andrea) Smith of Piqua, OH and Hallie (Eric) Barth of Ft. Thomas, KY; eleven grandchildren; Ashley Kennedy, Chelsea (Mason) Michelson, Gabrielle (Tyler) Webb, Isabelle (Braydon) Robison, Lincoln, Levi, Clara, and Corinna Smith, and John, Drew, and Fletcher Barth; and three great grandchildren; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Warren, Kent, and G. Ross Smith.
Lisle was a 1956 graduate of Elida High School, and Wittenberg University in 1960. He enjoyed a notable career as the Executive Director of the Miami County YMCA until his retirement in 1994. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors of the Shelby County A.A.A. Growing in his faith was important to him as evidenced by his active membership at the Grace Methodist Church and his Walk to Emmaus. One of his most cherished activities and when he felt closest to the Lord, was being part of the ‘Grace Notes’ quartet at Grace Methodist. Smitty loved nature, and he and his wife traveled to almost every National Park in the United States. He enjoyed bird watching, and kept an extensive list of all the bird species he witnessed in his lifetime. He recorded 86 species in his nature journal! He will be remembered for his sense of humor, friendship, making the world a little better, and most of all, his love for his family.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 11:30 with Tom Zechman officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Beechwood Cemetery, Lockington, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name are suggested to Piqua Compassion Network, 325 W.
