Leroy R. Platfoot, 82, of Piqua, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born September 14, 1941 in Greenville to the late Earnest and Helen L. (Magato) Platfoot. He married Sue (Little) Platfoot August 15, 1966 in Versailles and she survives.
Other survivors include two children, Donald (Cyndi) Platfoot of Finneytown, and Michael (Nancy) Platfoot of Tipp City; seven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; four siblings, James Platfoot of Homosassa, Florida, Willard (Pat) Platfoot of Minster, Linda (James) Rismiller of Versailles, and Lawrence (Betty) Platfoot of Russia; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Carl, Roger, Robert, and twins Melvin and Nelson Platfoot; and three sisters in law, Charlene, Mary, and Ruth Platfoot.
Leroy was a graduate of Russia High School, Class of 1960. He honorably served his country and community in the U.S. Air Force and as a Firefighter for the Piqua Fire Department. Leroy enjoyed going to the Piqua Senior Center and the friends made there, he was also a member of the American Legion Post 184, and the former Moose and Eagles lodges. He previously was the owner of Mauri's Landing in Fort Loramie and made the best fried chicken. Leroy was a fan of the Cleveland Browns, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and loved to go fishing and he was an excellent card player. He will surely be missed by all who loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Steve Shoup as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 184 Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 720, Piqua, OH 45356.
