Leora F. Long, 98, of Piqua, passed away at 9:04 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville. She was born January 17, 1923 in Miami County to the late Ora Lee and Clara Helen (Munger) Minton. She married Carl Henry Long July 12, 1947 by Rev. Norman Gutry at the Piqua Congregational Christian Church; he preceded her in death June 18, 2008.
Survivors include three sons, Neil (Pamela) Long of Tipp City, Wayne (Deanna) Long of Greenville, Thomas Long of Myakka City, Florida; eight grandchildren, Jason (Nicole) Long, Justin (Beth) Long, Jonathan Long, Julie Long, Heather Rardin, Darin Long, Jasmine (Jack) Spear, Michael Long; and eight great grandchildren, Ayden Long, Ava Long, Reagan Long, Jack Long, Tyler Rardin, Zachary Rardin, Jayce Spear and Jolee Spear. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Long; two brothers, Donald Minton, Willard Minton; and a sister Lois Pitsenbarger.
Mrs. Long was a 1941 graduate of Piqua Central High School. She worked at Montgomery Wards and Hobart Brothers in addition to helping her husband with the family farm. She was also a wonderful homemaker. She was an active member of the former Piqua Christian Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, crafts, 50-50 dances, Volksmarches, puzzles and playing cards. She will be remembered for her faith and love of family.
Leora donated her body to Wright State University School of Medicine for the betterment of the medical community. A memorial service to honor her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith Gebhart officiating.
