Larry V. Walters, 79, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Hospice of Miami County. He was born April 14, 1942 in Bellefontaine to the late Vernon and Mary (Bishop) Walters. He married Roziland “Ozzy” Shumaker March 11, 1967 in Piqua; and she preceded him in death December 31, 1994.
Survivors include four daughters, Angie (Jack) Baumann of Troy, Christina (Jason) LaForce of Eaton, Melissa Walters of Piqua, Kylie (Jeremy) Dickson of St. Paris; nine grandchildren, including his roommate and caretaker for the last few years, Cameron Horen; two great grandchildren; one brother, Ron (Merri Ellen) Walters of Conover; and one sister, Jeanette (Jim) Bradley of Carson City, Nevada. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Michelle Walters; and an infant brother.
Mr. Walters served proudly in the United States Army in Korea. He worked for many years as a security officer as well as a paramedic. Additionally, he dedicated many years to the Army National Guard as well as the Dayton Police Department where he would teach recruits about firearms and shooting drills. He loved history and spent a lot of his time researching World War II. He was a kind and caring man who dedicated himself to his family.
A gathering of family and friends to honor his life will be held from 10:00-12:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, Inc. 3230 N.
