Larry W. Pickering, 86, of Houston, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Ohio's Hospice of Miami County. He was born August 12, 1937 in Piqua to the late Robert R. and Marjorie L. (Reese) Pickering. He married Renate (Geisel) Pickering May 4, 1957 in Norheim, Germany and she survives.
Other survivors include four children, Dr. Robert (Susan) Pickering, Terry Calvert, Dr. Kathy (Steven) Carter, and Kenneth (Lisa) Pickering; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Thomas.
Larry was a graduate of Piqua Central High School, Class of 1955. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army. Larry was the owner of the Piqua Champion Foundry and proudly devoted 42 years of hard work and dedication to his employees and business associates. Larry was a former member of the American Foundry Society as well. Larry was never late and he took pride in that, and also was very generous toward charities, his employees, and his family and friends. Larry and Renate liked to travel when they could, and previously visited Germany a number of times to visit with Renate's family. Most of all, family was most important to Larry and he loved to gather with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A service to honor his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
