JOSEPH THOMA, III Obituary

Joseph A. Thoma, III, 73, of Piqua, passed away at 10:27 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born May 7, 1951 in Piqua to the late Joseph A. and Rita K. (Sacher) Thoma, Jr. He married Peggy K. (Towner) Bundschuh January 9, 1999 in Piqua; and she survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Joseph A. (Rachel) Thoma IV of Maumee, Luke (Vanessa) Thoma of Piqua; a stepdaughter, Kate (Damon) Strickland of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Izabelle, Jocelyn, Irena, Evelyn, Jack, William, Benton; and a sister, Linda Cooper of Burke, Virginia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Thoma; and a stepson, Christopher Bundschuh.

Joe was a 1969 graduate of Piqua Catholic High School and went on to earn his Bachelors Degree from Bowling Green State University in 1973. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He became the fifth generation to continue the trade and craft at Joe Thoma Jewelers. He was active for many years with the Piqua Catholic High School Alumni Marching Band and was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks where he served as the 1980 Exalted Ruler of Lodge 523. He was a member of the Piqua Noon Optimist Club; was an Advisor for the Richard Donnelly Scholarship; and served as the Taps Bugler for many veteran burials in area cemeteries for many years. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf, especially in the Echo Hills Golf Leagues. Joe enjoyed giving of himself and of his time, he would regularly volunteer to work the St. Boniface Parish Festivals and was a Trustee for Washington Township. He will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor, regularly offering silly jokes, his infectious smile and his love and dedication to the Piqua Community. He will be deeply missed by many.

A service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to Diabetes Dayton 2555 S.
