Joseph W. “Joe” Grunkemeyer, 63, of Piqua, passed away at 3:13 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born January 21, 1959 in Piqua to the late Carl R. and Alice M. (Seipel) Grunkemeyer.
Survivors include four children, Kyle (Pam Yount) Grunkemeyer of Bradford, Trenton (Katelyn) Grunkemeyer of Piqua, Ethan Grunkemeyer of Piqua, Sarah Grunkemeyer of Cincinnati; six grandchildren; and his former spouse, Mary Grunkemeyer of Piqua. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Francis Lehman, Sr.; a brother, Thomas Grunkemeyer; and a sister, Karla Powell.
Joe was a 1977 graduate of Piqua Central High School and attended Hocking Hills College where he earned his associates degree. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He worked for many years as an insurance salesman for Prudential before opening his own financial firm, J.G. Financial. He was an avid sports fan and followed the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns. He was philanthropic with his community and enjoyed throwing block parties, and focused a lot of his efforts around the holidays, making sure the children in his neighborhood had gifts and parties to look forward to.
A service to honor his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Steve Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Piqua Catholic School, 503 W.
