Joseph J. “Joe” Buchanan, 68, of Piqua, passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 29, 2025 in his home. He was born March 16, 1957 in Piqua to the late Robert Buchanan and the late Marian (Wolfe) Mollman.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel (Merinda) Buchanan of Piqua, Jared (Kim) Buchanan of Troy; a grandson, Brooks Buchanan; and three sisters, Peggy (Mark) Meeds of Centerville, Jane Putnam of Radford, Virginia, and Lori Cropper of Springfield. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Carl Cropper, Ron Putnam; and his stepfather, Lee Mollman.
Joe was a 1976 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He worked as a heat treat operator for Jackson Tube for over 20 years before his retirement in 2011. He was an extremely proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Joe enjoyed all types of shooting sports; both long gun and handgun, as well as target shooting. In his younger years, he was a talented reloader and really enjoyed reloading ammunition. He also enjoyed playing euchre with his family and friends and he also served as the admin of “The Bacon Club” on Facebook. Additionally, he enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals. He was also a movie buff and enjoyed watching and collecting all types of movies.
A service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Keith A. Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
