John I. “Jack” Roeth Sr., 85, of Troy, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born February 24, 1936 at home in Houston to the late Roy O. and Gertrude (Durand) Roeth. He married Barbara J. (Smith) Roeth October 17, 1957 in Lockington; and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, John (Rhonda) Roeth Jr.; two daughters, Jane (Dean) Fogt and Susan (Doug) Wick; eight grandchildren, Daryl Roeth, Jennifer (Shawn) Eingle, Jeremy (Tonia) Fogt, Sarah (Matt) McLaughlin, Joseph (Eva) Fogt, Bradley Wick, Benjamin (Shelly) Wick, and Matthew Wick; seven great grandchildren, Haylen Eingle, Jack Fogt, Noah and Kate McLaughlin, Nolan, Rebecca and Luke Fogt; six siblings, Harold (Luella) Roeth, Helen (Roland) Kellar, Fred (Carol) Roeth, Marilyn Ryan, Gary (Gretchen) Roeth, and David (Annette) Roeth. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carla; and two brothers Richard and Charles Roeth.
Mr. Roeth was a graduate of Houston High School Class of 1954 and loved being a lifelong farmer in Shelby County. He earned his State Farm FFA degree in high school in 1953. He earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in 1966 and started his accounting career at Wilson Accounting Services in Piqua. He worked also at Allen-A in Piqua and General Films in Covington for many years. Jack was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sidney. He was a longtime member of the Houston Elevator Board, and a former member of the Piqua Kiwanis Club. He will be remembered for his lifelong work ethic, his gentleness, and his love for his family.
A private service to honor his life will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sidney with Rev. Steve Edmiston officiating. Burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery, Lockington. His family is being served through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 120 W.
