John Barringer Thompson, “Barry”, 73, of Maineville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife, Gail, at his side on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Barry was born on October 19, 1951 to John P. and Margaret (Pusch) Thompson. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; and brother, Scott; as well as his uncle Barry Pusch.
Barry is survived by his wife of 24 years, Gail (Selby) Thompson; step daughters Tara McCarthy (Brian) of West Chester, Ohio, Amber Poss (Keith) of Powell, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Evan McCarthy, and Kylie, Caden and Keira Poss. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Polly Thompson; and nephews, Scott II and Brad Thompson of Lawrenceville, Georgia; aunt Mrs. Judy Pusch of Evanston, Illinois; cousins Hans (Molly) Pusch and children of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Kurt (MC) Pusch and children of Cashiers, North Carolina.
Barry grew up in Bay Village, Ohio and spent his pre-college years at Shattuck School in Faribault, MN where he graduated in 1969. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1974. He worked for many years as a Senior Advertising Account Executive at Reach USA in Cincinnati, Ohio where he met his wife, Gail. They were married in August of 2001.
Spending time with his grandchildren and their families, attending their events and celebrations, vacationing with them and watching them grow, was the greatest joy in Barry’s life. He was an accomplished acoustic guitarist and always carved time out of every day to finger pick his way through a familiar tune as a fan of the blues genre. Barry and his wife had shared interests in in classic movies, reading, concert going, and following Ohio State Football, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals. They especially treasured their vacations on the Gulf Coast of Florida throughout their married life, combing the beach and making lasting memories together.
Barry was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and he will be forever cherished, missed and held in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
A private remembrance of Barry’s life will be held at a later time. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Guestbook condolences and expressions of sympathy, to be provided to the family, may be expressed through jamiesonandyannucci.com
