John C. Vetter, 73, of Piqua, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born February 26, 1951 in Piqua to the late Lester J. and Virginia M. (Campbell) Vetter. He married Linda Bushnell June 4, 1977 in Piqua; and she survives.
Other survivors include two children, Jennifer (Bryan) Butsch of Piqua, Jonathan (Jessica) Vetter of Beavercreek; three grandchildren, Ian, Harrison, Bennett; a brother, Jim (Brenda) Vetter of Piqua; and a sister, Vicki (Tim) Reed of Piqua.
Mr. Vetter was a 1969 graduate of Piqua Central High School and went on to earn his Bachelors Degree in Industrial Management from Wilmington College in 1973 where he was a member of the Sigma Zeta Fraternity. He worked for many years as the purchasing manager for the former Ramco Rotors before retiring in 2008. He then worked for Emerson before retiring in 2014. He was a member of The Valley Church. Additionally, he was a devout member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Piqua until their closure where he served as Past Exalted Ruler; then in Troy for many years. He enjoyed the Dayton Auto Racing Fans group as well as volunteering with Piqua Youth Soccer Association where he was a referee and coach for many years as well as a board member. He was musically gifted and enjoyed his involvement in the Piqua Alumni Marching Band as well as the Piqua Civic Band. He was known to travel around the neighborhoods with his trombone during Christmas time with his friends, playing Christmas songs for all those who would listen. He will be deeply missed.
A service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with and Elks Lodge of Sorrow Service being held at 6:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to ALS United Ohio, 1170 Old Henderson Road - Suite 221, Columbus, OH 43220; or Give Medical Ministry, 1000 Mote Dr., Covington, OH 45318.
