JOHN D. SCHWABENLAND

John D. Schwabenland, 69, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024 in the comfort of his home. He was born November 29, 1954 in Troy to the late Frederick “Dutch” and Mary A. (Hecker) Schwabenland. He married Michele M. Liebherr May 4, 2013 in Piqua; and she survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Emily Schwabenland-Behr of Piqua, Melissa Minenna of Alaska, Stephanie (Matt) Noland of Piqua; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and three siblings, Judy Cotrell of Piqua, Jerry (Loretta) Schwabenland of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Jane Preuss of Piqua.

John was a 1972 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He worked as a machinist for various manufacturers and eventually for West Troy Tool & Machine. He was an excellent machinist who was meticulous about his work. He enjoyed riding motorcycles as well as working on them. He enjoyed the process of tearing them down and rebuilding them with a variety of alterations. He was very much a “garage tinkerer” and challenged himself to learn how things worked and how to fix them.  Additionally, he loved his guitars and had a nice collection over the years. He was very humble about his playing abilities and would always say he wasn’t all that great, but those that heard him play knew how truly talented he was.  

A service to honor his life will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Brother Gabe Carroll officiating. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3967 Washington Rd.
