JOHN CAUDILL Obituary

John W. Caudill, age 88, passed away on March 14, 2026 with his family by his side. John was born on September 10, 1937 in Morehead, Kentucky where he met and married his loving wife of 69 years, Arbutus Butler. John is survived by his wife Arbutus, daughters Lydia Callison (Rick) and Leila Layman (David), four grandchildren Kevin Callison (Chris), Ryan Callison (Emily), Mallory Skidmore (Derrik), and Ben Layman (Irene), and seven great-grandchildren Jack, Corbin, Greer, Smith, Emma, Bodhi and Troy. John is also survived by his brother George (Jackie) of Auburn, Alabama, and Carl (Patty), Benny (Cheryl), and Ronnie all of Morehead, Kentucky.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Delphia Caudill, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earsel and Effie Butler, and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bertleen, Vernon, Woody, Lorene, Curtis, and Joretta.

John was proud to serve in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1974. He went on to a long career with the Ohio Highway Patrol, where he administered drivers license exams for many years before retiring in 1989. You always kept two hands on the steering wheel when John was riding in your car. John was a long-time member of Elks Lodge #523 and held many titles over the years, including Exalted Ruler from 1991 to 1992.

John was a self-taught jack of all trades, who enjoyed completing large and small home improvement projects at his home and for his family into his seventies and early eighties. John enjoyed making things in his shop, sitting on his front porch with Arbutus, reading, and Kentucky basketball, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family who will miss him daily.

Private services for the family will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been made through Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Donations in memory of John may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice.
