JODIE PEYTON Obituary

Jodie Ann Peyton, 48, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 7:18 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2025 at Ohio's Hospice of Miami County. Jodie was born October 26, 1977 in Middletown, to Earl Edward and Debra Ann "Debbie" (Eckhardt) Childers of Somerville. She married David Francis Peyton May 31, 1997 at Emmanuel Catholic Church in Dayton, and he survives.

In addition to Jodie's parents and husband, she is survived by her seven wonderful children, Cecilia (Adam) Nicholson of Huber Heights, Michael (Ally) Peyton of Dayton, Vincent Peyton of Versailles, Gabriel, Charles, Gianna, and Henry Peyton, all of Piqua; three grandchildren, Levi and Archie Nicholson, and Linus Peyton; one sister, Tanya Spencer of Somerville; also many other relatives and friends. Jodie was preceded in death by her son, Xavier Peyton. Jodie was a dedicated daughter of God, she knew her identity and everything she did flowed from that. She gave the world an example of a Godly marriage and being a holy wife, her trust in the guidance and protection of her husband was a testament to her love for him. A love which flowed into her motherhood, and her homemaking.

She was constantly serving those around her, first of all those in her own home. Which was often more than just her own family because the doors at Jodie’s house were open to everyone! She strived constantly to lead her children to God, showing them that incorporating and deeply loving their faith can be simple. It can be small. It can be every day. Whether it was waking up early (something she hated) to go to Adoration or say personal prayer, dragging 4 kids under 8 to early first Friday masses, planning the entire homeschool year and meals for 7 children based off of the liturgical calendar, or having them curl up next to her listening to Dave read the Bible, she was always an example of living faith and Sainthood on earth.

Jodie was a strong, quiet, bright light in the lives of everyone she met. Her smile lit up a room and was offered to anyone she encountered. Her passion was found in serving others, in pouring herself out for the people she loved, and even those she didn’t know. She believed that actions spoke louder than words and often you would find her in the kitchen for an entire day making meals not only for her family but for someone else in need! Each time you encountered her you would leave wondering how she became holier, more kind, and more generous than the time you saw her last. She knew and loved God so deeply and allowed him to change her for the better in every circumstance. No more so than in the intense suffering she experienced battling colon cancer at the end of her life. The way she carried her cross and allowed her community to stand at the foot of it with her is a lesson to us all. The Peyton family is deeply grateful to the community that has surrounded us during this difficult time. We sincerely thank you all for the meals, rides, companionship, wisdom, gifts, and most importantly your prayers. We are incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such love and support.
