James D. "Jim" Wick, 85, of Sidney, passed away at 3:19 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at The Landings in Sidney. He was born April 27, 1939 in Houston to the late G. Delbert and M. Marcella (Leslie) Wick. He married Carol (Fisher) Wick August 3, 1974 in Crawford County and she preceded him in death on October 23, 2016.
Jim is survived by his two children, Doug (Susan) Wick of Troy, and Janay (Ted) Michael of Sidney; eight grandchildren, Brad, Ben (Shelly), and Matt Wick, Hannah, Emma, Evan, Ryan, and Ella Michael; his sister, Patricia (Duane) Mullen of Sidney; his sister in law, Joyce Wick of Sidney; and his special friend, Dorothy Krusemark of Sidney; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Wick.
Jim was a graduate of Houston High School, Class of 1957. He attended Heidelberg University, and went on to get his undergrad Education degree from the University of Dayton and his Master's degree from Wright State University. Jim was a longtime educator and administrator, he taught Math at Houston and Versailles, and later was the principal at Spring Street School, Washington Elementary, and Springcreek in Piqua. Jim was a former member of Houston Congregational Christian and a current member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sidney. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Sidney, and the former Elks Lodge in Piqua, and was also a Freemason and former member of the Piqua Country Club. Jim loved his UD Flyers and was a longtime season ticket holder for UD Basketball. He enjoyed playing cards, going fishing and golfing, and loved banter back and forth and was a self-pronounced comedian. Jim was also a model train enthusiast and had models from various companies collected over the years.
A service to honor Jim's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Houston Congregational Christian Church with Pastor Kris Geise officiating. Burial will follow at Houston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, also at the church. Funeral arrangements are being handled through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Education Foundation, P.O.
