James A. “Jim” Grissom, 87, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 7:48 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Hospice of Miami County. He was born July 1, 1938 in Piqua to the late Clarence and Adelaide (Dodsworth) Grissom. He married Delma J. Martin June 23, 1957 in St. James Episcopal Church; a union that would span 68 years, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Craig (Joy Almcrantz) Grissom, Mike (Shawnda Frazier) Grissom, all of Piqua; a daughter, Vicki (Kevin) Selover of Troy; twelve grandchildren, Zachary Grissom, Jeremy (Katie) Grissom, Jessica (Casey) Roberts, Jacob (Tia) Grissom, Jennifer (Nick) Curtis, Chris (Cristy) Grissom, Evan Grissom, Brandon Grissom, Katie (Brian) King, Kyle (Whitney) Selover, Nichole Yearsley, Brianna (Will) Spencer; twenty-three great grandchildren, Layne, Bradley, Porter, Taegan, Hallie, Caden, Anson, Hudson, Brogan, Colton, Hannah, Waylon, Maverick, Eadie, Kora, Mila, Boone, Carly, Evelyn, Violet, Darnell, Jersey, Aviee; a brother, Scott (Carol) Grissom of Covington; three sisters, Judy Adams of Piqua, Sherry Black of Piqua, Lora (Larry Schmidlapp) Grissom of Piqua; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Grissom, William Grissom, Donald Grissom; and two sisters, Dorothy Morrissette, and Cathy Stewart.
Mr. Grissom was a 1956 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He began his career with Kroger where he worked for 14 years before becoming the owner and operator of Grissom’s Supermarket and the Piqua Beverage Center for over 44 years. He also worked as a delivery driver for Hartzell Propeller and enjoyed taking his grandchildren on many trips while delivering. He was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church where he was active as a Vestry Member and sang in the choir. He was a past member of the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce where he was one of the original Ambassadors. He was honored with the Chamber of Commerce Achievement Award in recognition of his volunteer service and enrichment of the Piqua community. He was a member of Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks where he was past Exalted Ruler and had been active with their bowling league. He was an avid golfer and was a past member of the Piqua Country Club where he served two terms as President of the Board; Echo Hills; and the Golden Boys. Additionally, he was part of the Hole-In-One club. Most importantly, he loved cooking out with his family and enjoyed impromptu gatherings of his family and friends as well as traveling in his RV and camping with his family.
A service to honor his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2025 at St. James Episcopal Church. Private burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
