JAMES "BUTCH" SARVER JR. Obituary

James R. "Butch" Sarver Jr., 81, of Piqua, passed away unexpectedly at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born December 24, 1944 in Troy to the late James R. and Eliza (Parkinson) Sarver Sr. He married Diane (Bowers) Sarver July 26, 1969 in Newport and she survives.

Butch is also survived by two daughters, Angel Sarver of Piqua, and Amy (Dustin) Meyer of Covington; seven grandchildren, Darien, Daria, Alicia, Riley, Connor, Chase, and Jake; two great grandchildren, Mason and Everleigh; his sister, Toni Curtis of Bossier City, Louisiana; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother in law, Bill Moats, and his special daughter Darla Lee.

Butch was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1963, and attended Circleville Bible College. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. Butch was a hard worker, and had worked at Hobart Brothers for 23 years, and then worked for Scott M & A Corp. (McDonalds) for a few years starting in 1993. He was the proud recipient of the "Ray Kroc Award" which was given to the most valuable employee and less than 1% of employees earned this honor. He was a longtime, faithful member of the Troy Gospel Tabernacle and enjoyed attending the men's bible study and loved his church family. In his free time, Butch enjoyed reading the Bible and Devotionals. He would often be seen taking long walks around the city of Piqua and admired watching the birds and squirrels in the yard, especially when an albino squirrel would come around; those were his favorite. Jim watched all sports, but loved hockey and specifically followed the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Reds, the Dragons, and Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a huge supporter of his grandchildren that played sports. He would attend games and help them practice sports outside of school. Butch always put others before himself and he was ready to help anyone without thinking twice. He will certainly be missed by all who loved him.

A service to honor Butch will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Rich Baker officiating. Following the service, full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad at the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home.
