James Gambill, 96, of Piqua, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2023 at Ayden Healthcare of Piqua. James was born on September 10, 1926 in West Liberty, Kentucky to the late John and Annie Gambill. He married G. Evangeline (Snider) Gambill on January 28, 1950 in Piqua, Ohio. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2001.
Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dave Gambill, son-in-law Chuck Flaharty, grandson James Robert “Rob” Lawrence, and 9 siblings.
James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Kathy Flaharty of Piqua, Jim Gambill of Piqua, and Kevin (Jan) Gambill of Arlington, Texas; Grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Lawrence of Piqua, Carly (Todd) Wagner of Sarasota, Florida, Matthew Gambill of Piqua, Corey Gambill of Troy, and Cole Gambill of Troy; Great-grandchildren Zach (Becca) Lawrence of New Albany, Indiana, Austin (Taylor) Lawrence of Piqua, Mara (Andrew) Lawrence of Piqua, Cody (Allysa) Lawrence of Piqua, Blake Wagner of Sarasota, Florida, and Grace Wagner of Sarasota Florida; Great-great grandchildren Andrew, Knox, Millie and Lainee. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, along with 4 siblings; Pearl (Mary) Gambill, Hearl (Dolly) Gambill, Vonnie (Caroleene) Gambill, and Ronnie (Donna) Gambill.
James worked at Decker’s Meat Packing in Piqua for over 35 years and ultimately retired from Dinner Bell. He will be very missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend appreciation to Ayden Healthcare and Hospice of Miami County for the great care provided.
A gathering of family and friends to honor his life will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to Hospice of Miami County, Inc. 3230 N. County Rd. 25A, Troy, OH 45373.
