Herbert E. Gantt, 92, of Piqua, died at 12:27 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2024 at Hospice of Miami County. He was born October 7, 1932 in Miami County to the late Samuel M. and Ethel B. (Hess) Gantt. He married Shirley A. Burch and they enjoyed 69 wonderful years together. She preceded him in death February 16, 2022.
Survivors include three sons, Michael (Judy Simons) Gantt of Cape Coral, Florida, Daniel Gantt of Piqua, Darin Gantt of Middletown; a grandson, Andrew Gantt; five brothers, Jack Gantt of California, Bob Gantt of Oakwood, Bill Gantt of Greenville, Frank Gantt of Panther Creek, John (Scott Didier) Gantt of Dayton; and three sisters, Peggy Brumbaugh of Union City, Arlene (Earl) Manning of Gettysburg, and Miriam (Doug) Minnich of Gettysburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dave Gantt, Richard Gantt; and a sister, Alice Joan Clack.
Mr. Gantt worked as a machinist for the former Armco and AK Steel for nearly 40 years before his retirement. He served his country in the United States Army where he was a two year combat veteran of the Korean War and served six years as a reservist. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association. He was known as a ‘Jack of All Trades’ and enjoyed keeping his hands busy. He liked to solve problems and fix anything he could get his hands on-even if it wasn’t his. He will be missed by his loving family and dear friends.
A service to honor his life will begin at 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, Inc. 3230 N. County Rd. 25A, Troy, OH 45373.
