HARRY L. CHRISTY JR.
Harry L. Christy Jr., 99, of Piqua, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Brookdale Piqua Assisted Living. He was born March 25, 1922 in Piqua to the late Harry L. and Blanche A. (Reeder) Christy Sr. He married Anna Marie Wack November 11, 1942 at the St. Boniface Church Rectory, a loving marriage that would span sixty-nine years; she preceded him in death April 17, 2012.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Miracle of Dayton, Katherine Bengston of San Diego, California; three sons, Gerald (Kathy) Christy of Piqua, John (Chris) Christy of Buckeye, Arizona, Donald Christy of Sante Fe, New Mexico; two daughters-in-law, Deb Christy of Snellville, Georgia, Patty Christy of Lebanon; grandchildren, Steve Christy, Sal (Heather) Christy, Dan Miracle, Ryan (fiancé Jessie Rushing) Christy, Sean (Breanna) Christy, Jason (Emily) Manning, Christine (Kent) Howard, Tiffanie (Adam) Lopatin; great grandchildren, Owen Christy, Bryce Christy, Austin Christy, Sam Christy, Cooper Christy, Kaitlyn Manning, Kayla Manning, Lauren Manning, Riley Sailors, Marisa Verde, Sam Lopatin, and Ben Lopatin. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Marie Christy; two sons, Richard Christy, Thomas Christy; a son-in-law Wade Bengston; and a sister, Norma Jordan.
Mr. Christy was a 1939 graduate of Piqua Central High School and retired in 1987 from the Hartzell Fan Division as a Production Manager following forty-one years of dedicated employment. He was a charter member of Hartzell Industries Employees Federal Credit Union where he served 21 years as its Financial Treasurer. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II with General Patton’s Third Army (Battle of the Bulge). He was a devoted member of St. Boniface Catholic Church where he served as Lector, Usher, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member and chairman of the Finance Committee. He was a member of the American Legion Post #184, and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3344. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, University of Dayton Flyers and Ohio State Buckeyes. He will be remembered for his dedication to his Parish, family and the City of Piqua. He especially enjoyed sending cards to family and friends. His family extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Manis, Brookdale staff and residents who provided wonderful care and much enjoyment.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Daniel P. Hunt as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church, 310 S.
