HAROLD "DOC" PUMMILL Obituary

Harold E. "Doc" Pummill, 74, of Piqua, passed away at 12:02 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1948 in Greenfield, Ohio to the late Harriet J. (Warner) Mercer and the late Fred E. Mercer, his step-father. He married Mary C. (Reiber) Pummill July 15, 1968 in Piqua and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Christopher (Jessica) Pummill of Centerville, and Brian (Michelle) Pummill of Chesapeake, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Kaiden, Madi, Isabelle, Garrett, Tait, Parker, and Sommer; a sister, Ruthanna (Doug) Hamilton of Lexington, Kentucky; two sisters in law, Susanne Pummill and Josephine Anderson, both of Piqua; two brothers in law, Ivan (Shirley) Reiber and James Curl all of Sidney; his beloved three cats, Oscar, Punkin, and Calico; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Pummill and Harry "Duke" Pummill; his father in law and mother in law, Joseph and Rachel Reiber; and two brothers in law and one sister in law.

Doc was a 1968 graduate of Piqua Central High School. During high school, Doc was active with the Civil Air Patrol, and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Doc and Mary were longtime, faithful members of Greene Street United Methodist Church. Doc was a First Class Machinist, and had worked at Miami Industries, and Crown Forklifts, and retired from Crown. One of Doc's biggest passions was being a referee for soccer matches over the span of 35 years, from youth soccer up to semi-pro matches. He was a board member for over a decade, and referee for the Piqua Youth Soccer Association,  a State Level Soccer Referee for the U.S. Soccer Federation, Ohio South State Referee Committee, and the Miami Valley Youth Soccer Association, a Youth Soccer Referee for U.S. Youth Soccer, he was also a College Soccer Referee for the National InterCollegiate Soccer Officials Association, and a High School Soccer Referee for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Doc was also a member of the American Legion Post 184 and VFW Post 4874. In his free time, he and Mary enjoyed traveling all over the country, and to all the countries that their son Brian lived in during his military service. Above all else, Doc loved his sons, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and traveling to be present at all of their sporting events and activities.

A service to honor Doc's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Greene Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Will Leasure officiating, and a meal provided by the church will follow the burial at Highland Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
