Grover Paul Shaner, 92, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 3:56 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Hospice of Miami County. He was born December 24, 1931 in Shelby County to the late Virgle and Ida (Gump) Shaner. He married Gladys Crotinger September 23, 1962 in Piqua; and she preceded him in death January 3, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Shaner of Piqua; and two sisters-in-law, Loveda Shaner of Russia, and Regina Shaner of Piqua. He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Maxwell; and three brothers, Bert Shaner, Joseph Shaner, and John Shaner.
Paul attended Houston High School. He served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the AmVets Post 66. He worked as the maintenance man of Decker’s for over 25 years, then for the Miami County Safety Building for 10 years before he retired. He enjoyed spending his time watching Westerns and cowboy films. He was a farmer at heart and loved to spend time outside, especially on a farm.
A graveside service to honor his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, Inc. 3230 N.
