Gregory Joseph Mejia Reyes, 25, of Piqua, passed away unexpectedly at 2:31 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2024 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born January 8, 1999 in Troy to Herman R. and Michele A. (Mejia) Reyes of Piqua.
Including his parents, Greg is survived by his sister, Isabella Reyes of Columbus; his maternal grandmother, Mama Lily Mejia of the Philippines; numerous aunts and uncles, Angela (Jess) Doringo of Piqua, Carmela (Ruben) Bayron of Japan, Rev. Antonio (Arlene) Reyes of the Philippines, Annie (Ron) Williams of Piqua, Ramon (Bev) Reyes of Piqua, Mylene (Alvin) Huerto of the Philippines, Christine Reyes of Piqua, Venus (Mike) Soliday of Piqua, Josefina (Brian) Ferree of Piqua, Cynthia (Dom) Mejia of the Philippines, Tes (Robert) Salinana of Canada, Cel Desquitado of the Philippines, Glenn (Marissa) Mejia of California, Effie Mejia of the Philippines, and Viancey (Christian) Unabia of the Philippines; four cousins he grew up alongside, Daniel Reyes, Andrea Ferree, Abbi Soliday-Smith, and Brayden Soliday; his girlfriend, Mercedes Smith of Bowling Green; also countless cousins and other relatives from the Philippines, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the Continental United States, and many friends.
Greg was a graduate of Piqua High School, Class of 2017. He attended The Ohio State University, and recently was planning to work toward obtaining his degree in Information Technology. He was the Assistant Manager and Theater Concession Assistant at Cinemark in Piqua and loved his job and the friends he made working there. Greg was musically gifted, and stayed very active during high school, he played saxophone in the Marching Band and was the Drum Major, he also was on the Audio Hype Team for Show Choir and was on the Tennis Team. He loved collecting Pokemon Cards and old coins, watching anime, playing video games, editing photos and videos, and he was a skillful chess player. He loved to spend time with his girlfriend and his friends. Greg was known to be a hard worker and was very respectful; his positivity and attitude was always highly spoken of by his employers and peers. Whenever he was asked to do a task he would approach it with a smile on his face. Greg had the ability to brighten a room with his smile and positive nature, and he will surely be missed by all who loved him.
A service to honor Greg's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2024 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church (300 W. Mason Rd., Sidney) with Pastor Arthur Casci officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, and also Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Piqua High School Music Boosters, Dayton Children's Hospital, or to Anxiety and Depression Association of America.
