Gladys I. Stanley, 100 ½ , of Piqua, more recently of Dayton, passed away peacefully at 10:13 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Stonespring Nursing Facility, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 19, 1925 in Troy to the late Clyde and Rosabell (Alexander) Ward. She married Lloyd W. Stanley December 10, 1942 in Goldsboro, North Carolina; and he preceded her in death April 21, 1999.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Kimberly (Greg) Elam of Dayton; a grandson Doug (Shan) Charavay of Dayton; two great grandchildren, Jason (Kari) Elam, Bethany (Luke) Purtell; two great great grandchildren, Adelyn and Olivia and expecting one more. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Charavay; her son-in-law, Fred Charavay; six brothers, Charles, Mearl, Lowel, Kenneth, Forrest, Paul; and four sisters, Elsie Cost, Annabell Robinson, Dorotha Gingrich, and Rosemary Ward.
Mrs. Stanley was a 1943 graduate of Piqua Central High School. She worked as the store manager of Speigel’s in Piqua for over 20 years. She was a longtime member of Madison Avenue Church of God where she served as a Sunday School teacher, was the treasurer for many years, served as a trustee and was involved in the Women’s Group as well as the social committee. She had been active with the Troy Senior Citizens for many years, as well as the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and knitting. In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband. Most of all, she adored her family. She loved spending quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private graveside service to honor her life will be held at Miami Memorial Park, Covington with Pastor Scott Stremmel officiating. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
