Gerald S. “Jerry” McAfee, 89, of Piqua, more recently of Cincinnati, passed away at 8:27 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024. He was born November 10, 1935 in Cincinnati to the late Harris and Maude (VanMeter) McAfee. He married Janice L. Hudson July 26, 1969 in Piqua; and she preceded him in death April 25, 2003.
Survivors include a son, Scott McAfee of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; two stepchildren, Shelly Wight of Cincinnati, Rock Wight of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Brittney Wight, Sydney Ashcraft, Ian Ashcraft; two great grandchildren, Adelina, Salvatore; a sister, Roberta Upson of California; and three nieces, Diane, Carole, and Leslie. He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Carlos “Huddy” Wight, and Britt Wight.
Jerry was a 1954 graduate of Western Hills High School in Cincinnati. He worked as an appliance salesman for many years for the former Montgomery Ward and Elder Beerman. He served his country in the United States Army. He was a former member of St. James Episcopal Church and had donated many hours of his time volunteering in their food bank. He enjoyed his participation in the Piqua Players, Fractured Follies, and the Heritage Players. As a history buff, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the Ohio Canal system while working on the canal boat at Johnston Farm. After moving to Cincinnati, he volunteered at the Cincinnati Museum Center to share his knowledge and information about history with others.
A private service to honor his life will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 200 High St. Piqua, OH 45356.
